Hans Trimborn is an important German expressionist. From 1913 to 1916, Hans Trimborn studied medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. Together with former classmate Paul Adolf Seehaus, who was a friend of August Macke, he pursued nature studies.

Hans Trimborn never attended an art academy. The works he created between 1915 and 1918 were influenced by Rhenish Expressionism and show the colourfulness of this style. His preference for August Macke, Paul Klee and Christian Rohlfs is unmistakable. Hans Trimborn kept in friendly contact with the sculptor Bernhard Hoetger and other Worpswede artists since 1920. In Hoetger’s studio he had the opportunity to become acquainted with the works of Paula Modersohn-Becker. Becker became his inspiration.

The paintings of the 1950s are characterised by his interest in Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and, once again, Paula Modersohn-Becker. Hans Trimborn participated in public tenders for applied art. Hans Trimborn was presented in numerous exhibitions during his lifetime. Even after his death he is still honoured in exhibitions and publications. The first catalogue of his oil paintings was compiled by Dr. Janssen. He is represented in numerous public and private art collections and is thus one of the important expressionists and painters of the post-war period yet to be discovered.
