Procedure, from the estimate to the auction
Our experts determine for you the market value of your work, your works, on the basis of your information and the personal work appraisal in our house, as well as the current art databases and art literature. In addition to our experts, we have contact to the decisive experts for special inquiries and art directions. If in such a case we should obtain an expertise for you there, we will inform you in advance what the effort for a national or international inquiry would mean. You can then decide whether you would like to obtain an appropriate expert opinion.
Once the appraisal is complete, we determine the minimum bid price, which is the lower appraisal price. Likewise, we determine an estimate price range in relation to the upper estimate price. For those interested in our auctions, the price should always be set attractively and in line with the market, so that both seller and buyer profit equally.
We take care of the optimal description and optical placement of your artwork in our online auction catalog.
Consignment commission
The consignment commission/fee is due upon successful auction. It is calculated as a percentage of the hammer price of the work.
The standard commission is:
- 20 % for works up to € 5,000
- 10 % for works over € 5,000
The consigned objects are insured within the framework of ArtKontor’s general insurance coverage after consignment for a fee of 1 % of the hammer price, or in case of non-sale of the agreed minimum sale price, in each case plus the statutory VAT.
Certain works/artists are subject to levies/contributions for the Verwertungsgesellschaft Bildkunst or other collecting societies (resale right levy according to § 26 UrhG). This can range from up to 4% on the sales proceeds of works.
For this reason, the client/supplier pays ArtKontor a flat fee in the form of a levy amounting to 2.0% of the surcharge/settlement price, plus the current statutory value added tax, currently 16%, where applicable.
We will bear the remaining costs.
